Feeling hopeful can feel risky when we are frequently denied what we want. But giving up hope feels even worse. Daring to hope says that we believe there’s more out there and that we’re going to find it. It’s not naive, it's grounded in action. Cindy describes how we can maintain an open mind about what might be attainable, and why we need to stop confusing passive wishing with purposeful hope. The psychological force called negativity bias was once a survival skill, but now it just keeps us focused on what’s wrong. Cindy talks about how to combat that.
The good news is we can retrain our brains. Cindy offers three simple questions for us to answer nightly that will help us break away from fear and worst-case scenarios. 1. What is one good thing we can appreciate about today? 2. What are we hopeful about for tomorrow or the future? And 3. What inner strength did we demonstrate today? Cindy emphasizes that it’s okay to want more than what we currently have and shows us how hope allows us to advocate for ourselves with confidence.
