Cindy Esliger explores the myth that we need to do everything on our own to succeed. Asking for help is difficult but it’s something necessary to achieving greater success. Why are we so reluctant? And how can we learn to start asking for the help we deserve?
There can be a lot of reasons why we don’t ask for help: we fear rejection, we fear that the ask will mark us as incapable, it makes us feel weak, or we assume we will be a burden to those we’re asking. Cindy takes the time to break down why these beliefs are not necessarily true and how they’re holding us back. Asking for help is, in fact, a key skill that helps us build stronger relationships, navigate difficulties with greater ease, and grow in strength.
There are best practices around how to ask for help, however, that aid in minimizing the fears we have surrounding it. Reaching out for assistance should not be a substitute for doing work on our own. Cindy has advice on how to approach others for help by starting small and remembering gratitude. It’s work to break down the myths we believe about independence requiring us to do everything alone, but ultimately learning to collaborate and reach out for assistance will serve us far more.
