If you know Penny’s basketball career and life, there is no player who followed on a similar path than Elliot Perry. A few years ahead of him, Elliot was a standout player who became a star in Memphis and then an 11 year pro. He and Penny attended the same high school at Treadwell, and then Memphis State and onto the league. For all of its rich basketball culture you can’t talk about Memphis without Elliot and Penny.
As the story continues, they both have come full circle in their respective journeys and are back in Memphis writing the next chapter. Elliot aka “Socks” had the rare opportunity to play for his hometown team, and when he hung them up, he stayed working for the Grizzlies as the Director of Player Support. His mission now…build in the community, and pour into the next generation.
