Description

When Professor Cassandra Eisenreich came to teach at Slippery Rock University, she brought with her a love of early childhood music. In this episode, she and SRU student Jenna Diem, talk about SRU's Early Childhood and Elementary Music Community Initiatives program. This program offers free classes, concerts, and hands-on activities for young children to engage with music.

Cassandra discusses why she brought this program to Slippery Rock from Miami, and why it is important to develop kids' creative process through music. Jenna discusses her role as a teacher for the early childhood music classes at Slippery Rock, and why this initiative is so valuable to her.

They also both discuss upcoming events throughout the region, including collaborating with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for their Fiddlesticks concert. Jenna describes creating a loose framework around the theme of the Fiddlestick's concert for the hands-on activities beforehand. Children can become an animal, pretend to ride a rollercoaster, or imagine the sounds of invention!

Other events include Slippery Rock's Tuneful Tales concerts twice a year, preschool music classes, and Sing, Play, Move events at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh from 11:30am to 12 pm on February 9th, March 9th, April 13th, and May 11th. These free events are something you and your child don't want to miss!
