   "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
     Blessed are you when men speak abusively of you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil things against you for my sake.
     Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, because great is your reward in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you" (Matt 5:10-12).

Persecution

Blessed?

For the right reason:

Kingdom of heaven:

When we're misrepresented:

Blessed are you when men speak abusively of you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil things against you for my sake (Matt 5:11).

We're not blessed when we are needlessly offensive, or when we equate opinion matters or political positions or eccentric doctrines with Christianity. Jesus specifies that the perfection must "for my sake."

How are we often misrepresented as Christians today? Christians are often called;

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, because great is your reward in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matt 5:12).
