Description

Stop me if you've heard this before, Texas is having trouble recruiting linebackers and defensive ends. Texas has been on fire in the recruiting trail, specifically in the month of June but more recently there have been more misses than hits. Two prospects of note, Anthony Hill and Colton Vasek chose Texas A&M and Oklahoma over Texas respectively. Colton Vasek was a Texas legacy who grew up 5 minutes from the University of Texas. Currently, the #1 player in the state of Texas is trending towards going to Oklahoma. John Garcia, director of football recruiting at Sports Illustrated, joins me to discuss what is going on with Texas recruiting and how they can reverse the trend of swinging and missing on top defensive prospects in the country. One edge prospect that Texas is still in the running for, Derrion Gullette is likely to make his college decision on Friday. Like a few prospects Texas has already landed, it seems to be an in-state battle between Texas & Texas A&M. After missing out on Colton Vasek and Braylan Shelby trending towards the University of Southern California, Texas needs to land Gullette in their 2023 recruiting class. Last but not least, fall camp starts for the Longhorns on Wednesday and a big part of the Longhorns success this year will be determined by true freshman from the 2022 class. Yes, when you have a roster that has Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson & Xavier Worthy on it they will dictate your success. But Texas needs key contributions from true freshman to make their first Big 12 championship game since 2018. I ask John about Devon Campbell, Kelvin Banks, Terrance Brooks, J'mond Tapp and Brenen Thompson on today's episode of Locked on Longhorns. Hook EM
