First, Kelley shares the story of Mary Ann Shadd who fought for the freedom and success of black people, women's rights, and somehow found time to become a lawyer- all in the 1800s! Then, Emily tells a tale that is too dramatic not to be on TV! After surviving a war, Sutematsu Oyama was sent away from her home country of Japan to the United States to learn Western ways.
