Michele + Courage: "The magic of finding your champions." How Michele found her way as a college athlete in the 1970s, to one of the first female sports journalists who fought for equal access to athlete interviews for women in NFL locker rooms. Michele spent a long career as an award-winning sports journalist including covering the Tampa Bay Bucs, San Francisco 49rs, the Olympic Games, and is the co-founder of the Association for Women in Sports Media (AWSM). After retiring in sports she made storytelling magic for families with bloggers, influencers and online media relations as a PR Director for the Disneyland Resort.

AWSM is a volunteer-managed, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1987 as a support network and advocacy group for women who work in sports media (reporting, editing, broadcast, media relations, etc.). Founded by Nancy Cooney, Susan Fornoff, Michele Himmelberg and Kristin Huckshorn – our membership of more than 1,000 women and men primarily includes professionals in sports media and students aspiring to careers in the industry.
