When Masta Ace's Disposable Arts was released in 2001, Ace said he went into it thinking it would probably be his last album because due to his MS he didn't know what the future held. When death or immobility are contributing factors behind art, it seems to create great work. Now that Ace has a better control over his MS and his health, I asked him are these still his motivation behind his work.
"What I'm doing is, this is how I feed my family, this is how my mortgage is paid, this is how we eat. And so, if I'm going to abuse my body, not be physical wealth or capable or able to be on a grueling tour and jump around on stage for twenty shows in a row for thirty days then I'm hurting my family because they're relying on me to go out there and earn....Those are my motivating factors. I got to continue to feed my family and I have to take care of myself to do that."
