*TRIGGER WARNING – Content relates to sexual abuse and exploitation*
Mary Pichette is a survivor of sexual abuse and exploitation – but she will be the first to tell you that these aspects of her life do not define who she is.
In this powerful episode, Mary sheds light on the lack of power she had in her childhood and certain events in her life growing up in the 50s and 60s, as well as various injustices she’s faced throughout her life.
Mary elaborates on why she’s been so silent about the horrific things that have happened in her life, and how she’s been able to move forward from her past as she heals. She shares the challenges she’s faced sharing her story of being prostituted and how people’s opinions and perspectives shift so quickly based on the story she shares from her past based on misconceptions or deep societal beliefs.
Much of Mary’s work today deals with “Relating Effectively,” as a speaker, author, trainer, and relational coach, helping people overcome their PTSD due to surviving exploitation, addiction and homelessness. She speaks to the importance of the phrase “I believe you” and how much weight and power that can carry while supporting others on their healing journey.
She shares her personal strategies for dealing with PTSD, as well as her perspectives on exploitation and prostitution vs being prostituted.
