Perfect efficacy characterizes the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. In past centuries, the people of God had to offer sacrifices. The purpose was to remind people that they were sinful, and so they were offered continually. According to the Law, apart from individual sacrifices, a special sacrifice was offered on behalf of the entire people once a year on the Day of Atonement. On this day, the high priest took the blood of the sacrificed animal and entered the Holy of Holies, the place of the direct presence of God. The blood bore testimony that a life was given for the sins of the people.
