New York, NY —
New York companies are reporting more layoffs. Long Island's Newsday will cut 100 staff - or five percent of its workforce. Two auction houses, Sotheby's and Christie's, are planning layoffs as well. Editor of Crain's New York Business, Greg David, says that media has been majorly affected by the downturn, along with the financial sector. David suggests that more cuts will come before the end of the year so that companies can begin 2009 with a clean state.
