En 1453, tras un asedio de 53 días, Constantinopla, la majestuosa capital del Imperio Bizantino, sucumbió ante el avance imparable de los otomanos liderados por el sultán Mehmed II. La ciudad, antaño inexpugnable gracias a sus imponentes murallas, fue finalmente vulnerada por la artillería otomana y asaltada por sus tropas. La caída de Constantinopla marcó el fin de un imperio milenario y el comienzo de una nueva era de dominio otomano en la región, con profundas consecuencias para la historia de Europa y el mundo.
