Bleacher Report’s ranking of the top 99 teams in sports history has fired up debate after placing the 2022 Kansas City Chiefs at No. 71, prompting the question: was that even Patrick Mahomes’ best squad? The 2022 Chiefs powered through a dominant 14-3 regular season, capped with a Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles—a run that included revenge over Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals and a clutch win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, even after Mahomes suffered an in-game injury.
But is the 2022 team truly the greatest Chiefs roster? The 2023 Chiefs delivered one of the most unique playoff runs ever, overcoming regular season struggles and defying the odds by beating the Dolphins, Bills, Ravens, and 49ers—all as underdogs. Does their gritty, record-setting playoff performance outshine the more consistent dominance of their predecessors? The debate over which Kansas City era reigns supreme remains wide open.
