From the superhero-infused immigration story Home to acclaimed graphic novels like Frontera, Sí, Se Puede, and This Land Is Our Land: A Blue Beetle Story, Julio Anta has built a career around stories that explore identity, culture, history, and what it means to belong in America. On this episode, Julio joins the Bandits to discuss his path into comics, the personal experiences that shape his work, and the challenge of tackling serious social and political themes while still telling compelling, accessible stories. Along the way, he reflects on writing for both younger readers and adults, collaborating with artists across different projects, and why comics remain such a powerful medium for telling stories about communities and perspectives that haven’t always been centered in mainstream publishing.
