- Poverty does not equal modesty or humility.
- We can be driven to poverty because of the lack of modesty.

- Gal. 6:3- For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
- Prov. 16:18- Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
- James 4:6- Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
- Matt. 23:12- And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Jesus is our perfect example of humility: Matt. 11:28-30, Phil. 2:8
- He was free from all worldly pride.
- of appearance, He had no form of comeliness.
- of success, He was despised and rejected of men.
- of reputation, He was called a Nazarene.
- of riches, He had no place to lay his head.
- of rank, He was a carpenter's son.
- of kinship, He washed the disciple's feet.
