Oscar nominated producer Luis Augusto Figueroa joins the pod this week to talk about his film Feeling Through, which made huge waves in the industry, and features the very first deafblind actor. This whole interview is an extremely inspiring story, from Luis’ SOS moment to the story of the film itself. If you have 18 minutes to yourself today, we HIGHLY recommend watching the film (stream on YouTube!), before or after listening to this interview!
Charity/Nonprofit
Helen Keller National Center for DeafBlind Youths & Adults (HKNC)
- Authorized by an Act of Congress in 1967, HKNC is the only organization of its kind —providing training and resources exclusively to people age 16 and over who have combined vision and hearing loss. Students travel from across the country to their headquarters in Sands Point, New York, for on-campus training in assistive technology, vocational services, orientation and mobility, communication, and independent living. Their instructors are sensitive to the cultural differences between students with different levels of hearing and vision loss and varying educational backgrounds, providing individualized training and guidance to each student. HKNC also is a leader in professional learning, “training the trainers” to work with the deaf-blind community. To learn more and donate please visit www.helenkeller.org/hknc
