Rev. Jim Humphries
Series: Summer in the Book of Acts
Scripture: Acts 3:1–4:22
🧠Key Questions:
What would you do if money were no object?
What would you do if boldness were no object?
How would your life—and our church—look different if we fully lived into the boldness God has already given us?
🔥 Main Themes:
Holy Boldness:
Peter and John, once fearful and silent, now preach and heal with boldness through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Power Struggles:
The Sanhedrin felt threatened by the healing and preaching because it challenged their authority and power.
Speaking Truth to Power:
Even under pressure to stay silent, Peter and John declare, “We cannot keep from speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:20)
The Role of the Church Today:
Like the early disciples, we are called to be a bold church that:
Renounces evil and injustice
Speaks truth to power
Welcomes the stranger
Loves our neighbor
Hears the cry of the needy
✨ Quote of the Week:
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice… but it doesn’t bend by itself.” — Jon Stewart, quoting MLK
➤ It takes bold people of faith to help bend it.
🙋‍♂️ Reflection Questions:
Where in your life is God calling you to be bold?
What fears or powers are holding you back?
How can you use your voice to resist injustice and offer healing?
What would it look like for Davidson UMC to fully embrace Spirit-led boldness?
🙏 Challenge for the Week:
Pray each day for the Holy Spirit to give you boldness:
“Lord, make me bold for You—bold in love, truth, and action.”
Then, act on one opportunity to speak or serve boldly in Jesus’ name.
