Thank you for supporting me and my podcasting journey. Thrilled to celebrate episode #100 together. I could not be more honored and lucky to do so with Juvoni Beckford, who has been foundational to me living in New York City.
Juvoni Beckford is currently a software engineer at Google and co-founder of Personal Development Nerds. From growing up in a difficult environment, he learned how to maximize any opportunity and resource given and to create his own. Based on market dynamics for software engineering jobs, he decided to teach himself how to code, in addition to obtaining a business degree.
He reads around 50 books per year and uses an engineering mindset to apply to all areas of his life. This episode is full of short-term and long-term ideas for personal and professional life.
In this episode, you will learn:
- how and why Juvoni taught himself how to code
- lessons learned from getting his current job as a software engineer at Google, and leveraging prior opportunities each time
- how to apply an engineering mindset to personal development
- the benefits of writing annual reviews and how Juvoni does so
- the importance of deep work for chunks of time and then reflecting and evaluating; and
- the importance of managing your emotions
As always, this episode with time-stamp notes is available on my website
