Well, he's worried that the country is SO divided right now that families can't disagree. He's worried that a differing political view can send you to family or friend purgatory and hurt relationships. In today's world you HAVE to be able to overcome differences....even if it's to say "we agree to disagree".
Look at it this way......Jamie and Amanda were two people that wanted nothing to do with each other. At all. Then, well, cancer struck and oddly enough everyone was able to have PERSPECTIVE.
