Penn State football held its fourth open practice on Wednesday, and Blue White Illustrated was there to gather in the sights and sounds. First, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior Editor Nate Bauer give you their impressions of what they saw and heard in today's edition of the BWI Daily. After that, they take questions from viewers and listeners in their weekly mailbag segment.

Practice Observations
Bauer starts the show off by looking into the punting situation with the Nittany Lions. After having consistency at the position for six seasons between Blake Gillikin and Jordan Stout, Penn State enters a new era. After watching them perform in practice, Bauer gives his impressions of Gabe Nwuosu and Barney Amour.
After that, they discuss the first live work that Penn State has shown the media this spring. The first-team offense faced the first-team defense for a goal-line play, followed by a two-point conversion with the second string. How did that go? What did Bauer and T-Frank take from what they saw? Finally, they discuss what's valuable and not valuable from those moments.
Finally, they discuss safety Keaton Ellis and his presence with the Penn State defense. Bauer thinks that Ellis is highly underrated this spring as a player that needs to get more attention. Why? Bauer explains.
After that, they discuss the topics that the media asked head coach James Franklin. They discuss the offensive line depth issues, what Franklin has in store for the Blue White Game, and more.
Finally, they transition to the mailbag portion of the show to discuss what fans have on their minds.
They start with a question about the transfer portal. Based on James Franklin's comment from yesterday, fans want to know more about what to expect in terms of players leaving after the spring semester is over. Bauer breaks the conversation down into two types of players that leave the program based on the situation. T-Frank follows up with his thoughts about where to look for the players Bauer describes.
After that, T-Frank clarifies a misconception about the labeling of pass rushers and linebackers in football. Then he projects what players factor into Penn State's picture at that position.
They spend more time addressing the transfer portal with the offensive line in mind, and Bauer cautions that things will get wild the longer that NIL and the portal are unregulated. Nevertheless, he paints a stormy picture of the stability of competition in sports.
