Penn State managed only 14 plays in the first half, compared to Michigan's 50, yet was only down by two scores at halftime. However, two big runs by Michigan blew the game open in the third quarter, where Manny Diaz's defense gave up 168 yards on the ground.
Penn State's offense was overmatched, gaining only 22 yards rushing from its trio of runners before the game script was out of hand. However, quarterback Sean Clifford was good on the day, hitting several passes on third down to Mitchell Tinsley and a 48-yard pass to Harrison Wallace. But the team had very little consistency on offense and couldn't keep up with the Wolverines' onslaught.
The fourth quarter didn't yield better results, with Clifford going down and backup Drew Allar finishing the game.
