Description

Today Theresa is joined by Renee Keplinger (formerly Darmstadt for those of you in Kingston who know her by her maiden name). Renee is a Personal Trainer and runs the boutique fitness and women's studio, Cornell Street Studios in Kingston, NY. Renee kicks off the show with a little background about herself and how she transitioned from managing art events to following her passion of fitness. Just as she was getting back into running she was knocked down by a severe hormone imbalance stemming from coming off her birth control pill. She went from running a 5 min 34 sec mile to barely being able to walk a mile. Throughout the show we learn about the challenges this presented for Renee both personally and in her work and how she built herself back slowly through a fierce commitment to her healing. She shares her many self care practices as well as how she works with her clients, leading by example. She believes she's about 95% fully recovered and enthusiastically back in her running game. Renee works with individuals as well as group classes often times taking them into the field to enjoy the Spring weather.

Renee and Theresa were joined by Gynecologist, Dr. Amy Novatt, who specializes in Menopause management, Adolescent gynecology and Integrative Medicine. She is also Chief - Department of OBGYN, Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY. Dr. Novatt takes questions from Renee, Theresa and callers, Shana and Evelyn. The conversation winds through an understanding of how hormones affect a woman's body, HPV and pap smears, and surgical menopause. Thanks to our callers. Here is the reference to the book by Lori Ann King on her experience with her journey through surgical menopause, Come Back Strong.

The moral of the story. Our bodies are complex, and they are unique. They deserve love. Thanks to everyone for sharing and helping to make today's show an informative one for everyone.

Next week, Shana is holding down the fort with guests Katy Kondrat of the Kingston Food Coop and Farmer's Market and musician Jolie Holland. Until next week, love yourself and uplift one another.

Today’s show was engineered by Ben Benton of Radio Kingston, www.radiokingston.org with special support from Manuel Blas.

We heard music from Shana Falana, http://www.shanafalana.com/.
