Are there really secrets left in deer management? The answer is no, but we still have lots left to figure out. One aspect of deer management that seems to be forgotten is the idea of overall herd management.

Hunters seem to divide the deer population into two segments and treat them separately despite them being the same animal. We can’t expect to consistently grow above average bucks in a given sea in stressful conditions. Nothing and no one does well under stress, yet many hunters allow deer herds to become stressed in relation to population dynamics and the carrying capacity. We’ve got to manage the natural resource and find the balance or harmony with the land to reach an optimal state that produces giant deer annually.
