Timber management is a huge part of wildlife management. However it seems there is a common disconnect with the purpose or intent of managing the timbered acres on your hunting property. Thinning around mast trees and removing weed trees is great, but it doesn’t stop there. You should be more concerned with the response from the understory. That’s where the wildlife make a living. Manage for the mast to be a bonus and the understory to feed. That will be the most productive timber you can create and manage.
