We Deep Enders have been long time friends of the Cowboys. Particularly in recent years, many of our respective BM crews have gotten more and more close and intermingled..almost becoming one group between us, and I appreciate the Cowboys folding me and my peeps into their brilliance for this most ultimate of party days. Mad mutual respect!
So here it is 2010. As I look back on the last decade, one thing that was constant was I always looked forward to spending my New Years with my SF friends. And the last several years has meant really one thing - you see everyone in the world you know (or want to know) at BOC. The interesting thing is that the last couple of years, there has been a growing number of us that have not even gone out for NYE. That NYE has become NYD. And that is NOT NYD watching football like I used to in Texas. That is NYD watching the most creative and bizarre individuals frolic and make light of the world and have an amazing time. I've now had the pleasure of being able to play at BOC a few times, but I've always played in the afternoon. And I must say, playing in the afternoon of BOC is awesome because everyone has had 24 hours of partying to get really riled up for my set. And I love it. I'm going to make a motion to change the name next year to DOC or Day of Champions - because it's Not Just For Breakfast Anymore.
I was extremely excited to be playing outside this year - which folds in very fondly with my roots to The Deep End and our outdoor parties that I would craft sets for all year. My favorite sets ever will always be playing to a packed house at The Deep End, but a close second would be at BOC. I was playing at 4pm this year and following my main man Murphstar - who I knew would rock it and have everyone in a smiling happy mood - so I had to continue in on that vain. I tried to pick out tracks that flowed in a way to give fist-pumping energy moving forward and to create the kind of upbeat vibe we needed to not only sustain us from a long day/night of partying - but to keep it going throughout the New Year. Thank you to all that danced your heart out and gave me those smiles while we all jumped and jiggled. And thanks for accepting me in my skimpy scout outfit; though many of you did tell me how disturbed you were looking at me. It was an epic day. I hope you enjoy the music moving forward too - I'm very happy with this mix, and it is a very good reflection of the funky stuff I'm playing these days.
