Micha Venderbos aka Merites living in Nijmegen, a city in the south-east of Holland. There's a vibrant scene in electronic music here, quite a lot people are active. Think of the electro-oriented sounds of the Shipwrec label, the (dub-)techno music by Roger Gerressen and ESHU or the experimental stuff by Korm Plastics.
He also run two great record labels, Photic Fields and First Notions.
"I started Photic FIelds in 2012. It focuses on somewhat ethereal electro/techno/house. I released records by Automatic Tasty, Lerosa, Aroy Dee and Submersible Machines for example. The distribution is done by Clone Records, Rotterdam. There's a vinyl EP coming up by VC-118A, the electro-alias of Samuel van DIik (Mohlao), called 'Lichtinval', which I really look forward to.
A growing interest in ambient music resulted in starting a second label last year; First Notions. It releases minimalist and emotive ambient music. So far I released an album by Norwegian producer Mind over MIDI. There's a split-release coming up - at the end of this winter - by Cyspe (1/2 of Artefakt) and Kaelan. This should be a beautiful, cinematic ambient piece.
I decided to focus more on ambient music when DJ-ing also. Ambient music got some more attention lately, which is really nice to see. It would be lovely if there would be more space for ambient; 'chill-out' zones at events and festivals. There aren't many DJ's that focuses on ambient music. With the Merites-alias I try do this.
Together with friends Emiel and Wouter I run a small series of events here in Nijmegen as well, called Deep Motions. It's a no-nonsense night where we focuse on the music solely. For example we had over Conforce, Convextion and PLO Man.
When not playing ambient music, I play more subdued, atmospheric electro/techno and 'acid-ambient' under my alias MV; the Photic Fields' sound so to say.. :)"
