Perhaps dread of dying is responsible for a serial killer’s actions?
Does a serial killer carry out his actions in order to gain experiences that can placate his dread and make him able to face it? Do the primordial BURIED INSTINCTS of a serial killer, which all of US also have, re-emerge to light so violently that they need to be placated through the search for answers in order to continue to exist?
