프랑스 출신으로 현재 베를린을 기반으로 전 세계에서 활동하고 있는 Hypnotic Black Magic(이하 HBM)은 서브 컬쳐의 하위 장르인 최면적(Hypnotic) 테크노를 전문적으로 다루는 디제이로, 어두운 분위기와 서사적인 테마를 통해 인간의 가장 깊고 모호한 생각을 이끌어내는 내면적 여정을 안내한다. 그녀는 또한 유럽 전 지역에서 열리고 있는 Art Bei Ton의 주최자로, 유명 아티스트들 뿐만 아니라 여성과 퀴어 아티스트들을 조명하며 차별에 맞서는 활동을 하고 있다. 그녀는 베를린으로 이주하며 자유 선언, DIY 정신 등 베를린 서브-컬쳐 씬이 지닌 정체성에서 영감을 받아 자신이 사랑하는 음악과 커뮤니티를 돕기 위한 자신만의 활동을 시작하였다. HBM은 전 세계를 여행하며 공연 기획과 디제이 셋을 통해 소통하고 있으며, 베를린의 Griessmühle, ://about blank, 도쿄의 VENT, 포르투의 Gare, 서울의 vurt., 바르샤바의 Ciało, 노르웨이의 Monument 페스티벌, 그리고 뉴욕, 메델린, 트빌리시, 리스본, 파리, 암스테르담, 바르셀로나, 방콕, 브뤼셀, 몬트리올, 이스탄불, 아테네 등에서 공연하고 지역 아티스트들과 함께 더 나은 씬을 만들기 위해 노력하고 있다.
Always inspired by nostalgic and trippy electronic sounds since her early teenagehood, she has now developed their music taste around the niche subgenre hypnotic techno. Collecting tracks with a preference for powerful rhythmics, deep baselines, loopy atmospheric pads, epic themes or dark atmospheres, HBM’s construct her sets to guide the audience through a particular musical journey - captivating their minds for an introspective travel through human's deepest obscure thoughts, meditative states and sensual expressions.
Beginning to explore outdoor free parties in south of France at the age of 16, before moving to Berlin at 18, HBM has always been fascinated by this particular subculture. Absorbed by its statement of freedom, its DIY concept and the supportive community around, she decided to start her own event series to help the artists she likes to find a space to express themselves.
Since 2018, she is organising events through Art Bei Ton and Ambient Sleepers, featuring hypnotic techno/ambient music together with visual arts. Their aims is to promote diverse international artists within gender-balanced line ups, focusing of offering safe space for flinta* and queer artists to perform.
Based in Berlin, but also traveling around, HBM had the chance to play at some venues like Griessmühle and ://about blank in Berlin, VENT in Tokyo, Gare in Porto, Vurt. in Seoul, Ciało in Wroclaw, Monument Festival in Norway and many other cities such as New York, Medellin, Tbilisi, Lisbon, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bangkok, Brussels, Montreal, Istanbul or Athens.
