Mikah Meyer is an outdoor adventurer and LGBTQ+ advocate and the first person to road trip in a single journey to all 419 National Park sites (including Voyageurs National Park!). He’s a touring speaker, a singer, an inspirational speaker, and a comedic performer.
We got to know and then worked together several years ago when we helped Mikah organize with Ely Outfitting, an outdoor industry and adventurer group, for a Queer Boundary Waters Trip with Ely Outfitting Company in 2022.
Mikah’s new film, Canyon Chorus, tells the story of a rafting trip with four friends—all openly gay men—as they explore the importance of the outdoors, friendship, and mentorship.
Save the Boundary Waters - Associate Director Sam Chadwick joined Mikah at a Minnesota screening of the film in June at REI Coop and led a discussion afterward. We discussed what it’s like behind the scenes of a project like this, advocacy and representation (or lack thereof) in the outdoor industry, Mikah’s Outside Safe Space mission, and lots of important stuff! Give it a listen.
