There’s a common misperception about which is Austin’s fastest growing minority group.
Most people would undoubtedly think that title belongs to Hispanics.
But turns out that, although Hispanics are the largest minority group, they are not the fastest growing.
Austin’s demography is changing so much that, not even 10 years ago African Americans, for instance, represented 11 percent of the city’s population. Today, they account for just under 6 percent.
KUT’s Joy Diaz reports, although numbers are still relatively small, Asians are the fastest growing group in Austin.
