The city of Austin has doubled its population every 25 years since it was founded.
If you think that’s impressive, take a look at some of Austin’s suburbs.
One suburb – the city of Manor – has at least quintupled its population in the just the past decade. The raw numbers of people are smaller – but the effect is just as dramatic in a place that was barely on the map 15 years ago.
All this week, we’re taking a closer look at Manor’s growth – and the challenges it presents for the town. We’ve teamed up with the Austin Monitor and KLRU for a project called “Austin’s Eastern Frontier.”
KUT’s Mose Buchele starts us off. He went to seek out the cause of some of Manor’s explosive growth, and found it right here in Austin.
