Austin writer Daniel Oppenheimer's 2016 book "Exit Right: The People Who Left the Left and Reshaped the American Century" is a micro and macro look at what motivates to people change their tightly-held political beliefs and what happens on a small and large scale when they do. Oppenheimer chronicles six historical figures from the past 100 years or so who made the move from the political left to the political right. KUT's Jennifer Stayton talked with him about the stories of those six, as well as the shifting political sands occurring during the 2016 presidential election. Are they permanent? Or just a blip? He also talks about the "opposite" book, if you will; is there a story to be written about people who have moved from the right to the left? Oppenheimer says THAT would be a very different book. Listen on the hear why.
