Movie Reviews - Suicide Squad
by Sarah Mason & Jake Essoe

SUICIDE SQUAD, the latest Super Hero film in the DC franchise, is the story of a team of dangerous, incarcerated super villains recruited by a US intelligence officer (Viola Davis) who uses them as (potential) expendable assets for a top-secret mission. The super villains, led by Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), include Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Diablo (Jay Hernandez) Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), the Joker's (Jared Leto) main squeeze. Things inevitably turn to chaos when the US intelligence agency double crosses them and the Joker's own diabolical plans get in the way.

The film was Written and Directed by David Ayer. It's rated PG-13 and was released theatrically on August 5, 2016 by Warner Brothers.

We are HUGE DC Fans, we wanted to LOVE this film, we defended it when everyone said it sucked. Sadly, the best part of this film was the Infiniti commercial featuring Kit Harrington before the previews.

Bottom line, the script goes nowhere, the characters were not adequately developed, there was a ridiculous overuse of music making the film seem like one giant music video run amuck. The best moments of the film featured the standout performance by Jay Hernandez (Diablo - it should be El Diablo), who had the only true character arc.
