Samanth Subramanian is the author of three books: Following Fish: Travels Around the Indian Coast, winner of the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize (2010) and shortlisted for the Andre Simon Award (2013); This Divided Island: Stories from the Sri Lankan Civil War, winner of the Crossword Book Award for Non Fiction (2015) and shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Non Fiction Prize (2015) and Ondaatje Prize (2015); and A Dominant Character: The Radical Science and Restless Politics of J.B.S. Haldane, a New York Times 100 Notable Books of 2020 and a Wall Street Journal Ten Best Books of 2020. In this conversation, he sits down with South Asian Studies Council to discuss journalism and politics against the backdrop of India’s 2024 general election and shares some details of his forthcoming book on submarine cables.
