Daytime shows are a valued staple in American culture and, naturally, it's important to people of color that their voices and perspectives are adequately represented in this important media space. Thankfully, members of this community actually do lead the teams behind the production of some of the most recognizable daytime talk shows today.
In this episode of The Sidebar, moderated by BONITA SOSTRE, NYABJ President, we feature three members of this elite group of executive producers: JAWN MURRAY, executive producer of the show "Sherri", starring Sherri Shepherd; QUIANA BURNS, the executive producer/showrunner of "Tamron Hall"; and SHANI BLACK, co-executive producer of "The Jennifer Hudson Show".
The panelists discuss topics such as how to pitch a story to a daytime talk show, choosing what to feature on any given show, and the importance of building lasting connections and treating people nicely. They also emphasize the importance of networking and being remembered as someone who treated people well, as it will take you further than your talent ever will.
