XIZI ELEVATOR ENTERING AFRICA THROUGH AGREEMENT
Eliel Jerameal Nigeria Ltd. has been granted exclusive rights by China’s Xizi Elevator to distribute, sell, install and service Xizi elevator and escalator equipment in the African market, Vanguard reports. Nigeria, along with other developing West African countries, including Cameroon and Ghana, stand to benefit, as Xizi products will be more affordable than those of competitors, says Eliel Chairman Ayo Adefmi.
MALAYSIAN FIRM TO SUPPLY 114 ESCALATORS TO LRT LINE
Malaysia-based EITA Resources has won a contract to supply, install and commission 114 escalators to the new, 37-km Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 3 in Klang, Malaysia, the Nikkei Asian Review reports. Including a 35-km viaduct and 2-km underground tunnel, the line is being developed by Prasarana Malaysia and is scheduled for completion by August 2020. Railway Technology observes the project is expected to stimulate the economy and create approximately 2,000 jobs during construction.
15 HUDSON YARDS TOPS OUT, READIES FOR OCCUPANCY
Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group's 15 Hudson Yards has topped out at 88 stories and 910 ft. in February, on track for residents to move in by the end of the year, New York YIMBY reports. As it nears completion, its design by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, with a distinctive cloverleaf crown, is becoming clearer. The building is 15 ft. taller than 10 Hudson Yards, the first major building in the far West Side Hudson Yards mixed-use development. Including event venue the Culture Shed, 15 Hudson Yards will have 285 condominiums and approximately 100 "affordable" housing units.
CONTRACT LET FOR AYKON CITY TOWER
Damac Properties has awarded a US$163-million contract to China State Construction Engineering Corp. for the main construction of a tower at its Aykon City master development, ConstructionWeekOnline reports. The work has already begun on the Dubai high rise, to include 53 residential floors, two basements, a ground floor and 10 podium levels, in addition to a dedicated lifestyle and entertainment level. The 372,000-m2 Aykon City plan consists of residences, serviced apartments, a hotel and office space on Sheikh Zayed Road near the Dubai Canal.
BRISBANE PLAN INCLUDES 39-STORY COMMERCIAL TOWER
QIC, the investment arm of the Queensland, Australia, government, is proposing a plan by Cardno to build a 39-story commercial tower and revitalize three nearby buildings known as the QIC Triplets, The Urban Developer reports. Designed by architects Bureau Proberts, the tower would take the place of a low-rise building at 62 Mary Street in Brisbane, Australia. Architectus has been tapped to help deliver the overall masterplan, which includes restaurants, retail and conference facilities to help create “an active and vibrant commercial precinct.” QIC’s application is being reviewed by the Brisbane City Council.
