At 1,079 ft. and 80 stories, 3 WTC is the second-tallest building in the WTC complex and the fifth tallest building in NYC. 30 HUDSON YARDS’ TOPPING OUT A MILESTONE IN MANHATTAN
An American flag is rising above the parapet at 30 Hudson Yards, marking the topping out at 1,296 ft. of the 73-story office building in New York City’s Hudson Yards megadevelopment, New York YIMBY reports. Developed by The Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group, 30 Hudson Yards is the tallest building in the US$25-billion Hudson Yards on the far west side of Manhattan. Its design by Kohn Pedersen Fox features a cantilevered terrace that will be the tallest public observation deck in the Western Hemisphere. The terrace will be joined by a 10,000-sq.-ft restaurant, bar and event venue. Five-and-a-half years after groundbreaking, 30 Hudson Yards adds 2.6 million sq. ft. of office space to a development that has approximately 1 million sq. ft. for a variety of uses. With 30 Hudson Yards complete, the only remaining building in phase one is 50 Hudson Yards.
38-STORY TOUR ALTO RISING IN PARIS’ LA DÉFENSE DISTRICT
Tour Alto, a 38-story tower developed by Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and La Défense Public Development Agency in Paris' La Défense business district, has risen to the fifth floor, SkyriseCities reports. Designed by IF Architectes, the bell-shaped, shimmery tower will rise 150 m and include a 2,000-m2 open area facing the street. Its extra-height ground floor will house a small retail component. The open area is "one of many measures being taken to ensure the future of the neighborhood is optimized for an improved pedestrian experience both within and without the area's many office towers." Completion is anticipated by 2020.
NEW HOTEL PLANNED FOR MELBOURNE'S CBD
Melbourne's Little Collins Street is seeing continued growth as a hotel district, as developer BPM is seeking approval for a new tower, Urban.com.au reported in July. If approval is gained, BPM will build a 36-story, Elenberg Fraser-designed tower at 130-134 Little Collins Street in the Melbourne Central Business District (CBD). The Little Collins Street/Exhibition Street intersection is already within walking distance of several hotels, including the Stamford Plaza, The Victoria, the Grand Hyatt and the Sofitel Melbourne. A 300-room NEXT Hotel is currently under construction in the district, as well. BPM is known for its residential developments but has been focusing lately on Melbourne's strong demand for hotel rooms in the CBD
