ANOTHER ELEVATOR RESCUE FOR CFD IN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO
Members of the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) responded to another elevator entrapment in downtown Chicago at around noon on December 16, following an incident last month in which an elevator descended more than 80 stories in the former John Hancock building and six people were rescued, various news outlets, including the Chicago Tribune, report. This time, 15 people were rescued within about an hour and a half. Ten people climbed through a hatch in the top of the elevator, where they met a waiting firefighter and ascended a ladder in the shaft. The remaining passengers were freed through a hole that firefighters knocked in a wall in the mixed-use building, which appears to be approximately 10 stories tall. The passengers were trapped on the fourth floor for an undetermined amount of time, and no one was seriously injured, according to the CFD.
