CHINESE “VERTICAL CITY” TO INCLUDE GERMAN FIRM’S TALLEST
Hamburg, Germany, architecture firm von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (GMP) has designed its tallest building to date for Nanjing Financial City — Phase II, a new "vertical city" in Nanjing, China, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) reports. The 411-m-tall, approximately 80-story structure will have offices through the 60th floor with a five-star hotel and related amenities above. One of five high rises comprising the development, the building qualifies as a supertall as defined by CTBUH. It will be joined by a 245-m-tall office building. The supertall's nearly square footprint will be distinguished by two-story horizontal bands that mark amenities such as a sky lobby and staff restaurant. A construction timeline was not given.
OFFICE, RESIDENTIAL SCHEME PLANNED IN MANCHESTER
A 750,000-sq.-ft. plan consisting of a 40-story residential building and 14-story office tower has been submitted by Ask Real Estate for a piece of property in central Manchester, U.K., in the shadow of rail yards and metro stations, Construction Enquirer reports. If approved, the glassy, boxy towers would take shape within close proximity of the 47-story Beetham Hilton Tower and include significant infrastructure upgrades. The mixed-use block would be part of a boost to the city economy that has seen numerous hotels, retail and entertainment developments spring up, according to Ask Managing Director John Hughes.
MANHATTAN MIXED-USE TOWER REACHES 16TH FLOOR
Construction on the 24-story NOMA mixed-use tower at 50 West 30th Street in the NoMad (north of Madison Square Park) neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, has reached the 16th floor, New York YIMBY reports. Completion is anticipated in early 2018. Designed by FXFOWLE Architects and developed by Alchemy Properties, the structure will have retail in the cellar through the second floor and 55 condominium units.
