CTBUH’S WOOD HONORED BY ENR

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has announced that its executive director, Antony Wood, has been named among Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Top 25 Newsmakers of 2016 for going “above and beyond to serve the best interests of the construction industry and the public.” Specifically, Wood is recognized for his role in “propelling the global skyscraper authority into a new era.” In a biography of Wood, ENR reveals that in his “dream job,” he has initiated an original research program, expanded publications and made the CTBUH website an interactive source of data that is free to everyone. ENR editors will choose one from its “Top 25 Newsmakers” to receive its highest honor, the Award of Excellence. That person will be the subject of a cover story in the April 17-24 issue. All recipients will be celebrated on April 13 at the New York Hilton Midtown.

ELEVATORS STILL TO COME FOR SOME BANGKOK STATIONS

According to the National News Bureau of Thailand, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is “scrambling” in its efforts to install elevators for disabled people at all Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS Skytrain) stations by the end of the year. Deputy Governor Amnuay Nimmano stated the administration’s work on improving accessibility to 23 BTS Skytrain stations is incomplete (at 19 stations) due to delays. The work was initially to be completed by August 24, 2016, and included the installation of extra elevators at every station. There were problems, however, related to construction, demolition and the transfer of various public facilities, Nimmano said. A plan to accelerate the construction is to be unveiled in March.
