KONE PROVIDING VT FOR NEW DUBAI OFFICE BUILDING
KONE has been selected to provide the vertical-transportation (VT) package for ICD Brookfield Place, a 54-story, 282-m-tall office tower being built in Dubai. The order includes 17 MonoSpace®, 27 MiniSpaceTM and two scenic elevators, and five escalators. Scheduled for completion in March 2019, ICD Brookfield Place will contain more than 950,000 sq. ft. of office space and be connected to a five-story, 150,000-sq.-ft. retail center. The project also includes a 21,000-sq.-ft. public area flanked by restaurants and parking for 2,700 cars. Developers are Investment Corp. of Dubai and Brookfield JV, and the main contractor is Multiplex Ssangyong JV.

ELEVATOR OVERHAUL PART OF “HISTORIC” WILLIS TOWER PROJECT
A five-year elevator overhaul that includes bringing in a destination-dispatch system is among improvements underway at the 110-story Willis Tower in Chicago that Willis General Manager Gary Michon describes as “historic,” Energy Manager Today reports. Aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving operational efficiency, the upgrades span six months to five years. Michon says the new elevator system will get tenants to their destinations faster and allow the building’s freight elevators to “talk” to one another. Including the addition of 300,000 sq. ft. of retail, the improvements will help the 45-year-old building retain and attract tenants.

SUSTAINABLE TOWER, CIRCULAR TECH HUB FOR EASTERN PARIS
A 180-m-tall mixed-use tower and circular technology hub are the centerpieces of a plan for the Clarenton-Bercy District in eastern Paris unveiled by a team led by Bouygues Immoblier UranEra at the MIPIM international property show going on through March 16 in Cannes, France, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reports. Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) is the architect, and Ateliers is the landscape architect. Consultancy AREP and community think tank Le Grand Reservoir are also involved. The approximately 54-story tower will contain a hotel and residences overlooking a landscaped garden bridge over active railroad tracks. The highly sustainable structure will join a circular, raised timber building over a public courtyard boasting views of the Seine.
