OFFICE TOWER ENVISIONED IN DOWNTOWN PHILADELPHIA
Developer Oliver Tyrone Pulver envisions a 38-story office tower designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) on what is now a parking lot a stone's throw away from City Hall, SkyRise Cities reports. If all goes as planned, the 840,000-sq.-ft glassy structure will be delivered in 2020. At the corner of 13th and Market streets at 1301 Market Street, the site is surrounded by Marriott hotels on three sides and is a rare prime downtown location. In late 2016, the developer was trying to close on the property, and the permitting process could take at least a year.
ELEVATOR UPGRADE FOR NY SENIOR COMPLEX
State and federal funds are making a half-million-dollar elevator upgrade possible at Lakeview Towers, a nine-story, senior-living complex served by two elevators in Plattsburg, New York, Sun Community News reports. The local housing authority aims to have work done within a year. It will consist of modernization of cosmetic features and the control system for the elevators, which promises to enhance mobility for the towers’ approximately 100 residents.
ELEVATOR SHAFT FALL FATAL FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKER IN NYC
A 30-year-old construction worker passed away at a hospital from injuries he suffered as a result of falling down an elevator shaft in a 19-story building in which he was working on the Upper East Side in New York City (NYC) on December 23, the New York Post reports. The man apparently unhooked his safety harness so he could climb a ladder from the second to third floors, and fell while the harness was unhooked. The man’s employers said they are “working closely” with investigators to determine the cause of the accident.
