MIXED-USE TOWER POISED TO RISE IN NYC’S FINANCIAL DISTRICT
A 25-story, 335-ft.-tall mixed-use tower is poised to rise in New York City’s (NYC) Financial District at 1 Beekman Street at the corner of Park Row, with foundation work underway, New York YIMBY reports. Developed by Urban Muse and designed by Rogers, Stirk Harbour + Partners, the structure will span 95,285 sq. ft. and house 31 condominiums and commercial space on the first four floors, including ground-level retail. SLCE is the executive architect of the structure, slated for completion in 2018.
 
EIGSC ANNUAL HOLIDAY LUNCH IS EARLY THIS YEAR
Meetings of the Elevator Industry Group of Southern California (EIGSC) are usually held on the third Tuesday of each month, but since that day falls in the same week as the Christmas holiday this year, its annual holiday lunch will be held the previous Tuesday, December 13. The location is Taix French Restaurant, 1911 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90026, and the event starts at 11:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring door prizes for the group’s “biggest raffle of the year.” RSVP to email: shawn@naec.org.
 
ELEVATOR SHAFT FALL FATAL FOR MAN IN CHENNAI
A 29-year-old man died from injuries he suffered as a result of falling down an elevator shaft at a two-story hotel in the Royapettah neighborhood of Chennai, India, in the early morning hours of December 4, The New Indian Express reports. The shaft was vacant and covered by an asbestos sheet, which collapsed under the man's weight as he stepped on it. He was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
