ELEVATOR WILL LINK JEWISH QUARTER, WESTERN WALL
Israeli leaders are planning to build an elevator and underground tunnel at the Western Wall Plaza in Jerusalem to allow greater accessibility, Arutz Sheva reports. According to the proposal, the ILS50-million (US$14-million) project will grant the elderly and disabled easier access to the wall and the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem. The elevator will operate within a 33-m shaft that will connect the Jewish Quarter to the level of the Western Wall below, and a 65-m-long pedestrian tunnel will lead from the elevator to the checkpoint at the wall. The Western Wall is considered one of the holiest sites for the Jewish faith.

PHILIPPINES TO REPAIR RAIL-STATION EQUIPMENT
The Philippine Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has begun the process of replacing or repairing faulty elevators and escalators at the Manila metro area's LRT Line 2 stations, the Business Mirror reported. LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya said in a statement that the authority has begun replacing 32 defective elevators and 13 nonoperational escalators along the line, with priority being given to the busiest stations. Line 2 has 32 elevators and 58 escalators, but none of the elevators and only 31 escalators are functional. The PHP138-million (US$2.8-million) project is being handled by Ma-an Construction Corp. and IFE Elevators, and is part of a broader LRT rehabilitation plan.
