CIBSE LIFTS GROUP AGM COMING UP
The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Lifts Group is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Evening Meeting on February 7 at CIBSE, 222 Balham High Road, London, SW12 9BS, U.K. The evening meeting will include presentations on lift maintenance by Phil Pearson of Pearson Consult Ltd. and Building Information Modeling Level 2 and methodology for delivering structured data by Paul Oakley of Building Research Establishment.
APARTMENT/RETAIL TOWER FOR DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN
Downtown Brooklyn, New York, continues to bustle with activity as a 25-28 story, 345-ft.-tall apartment building with ground-level retail is planned at 8 Nevins Street, New York YIMBY reports. The property is being developed by Adam America Real Estate, Slate Property Group and China Vanke Co. Stephen B. Jacobs Group is the architect of record. It is set to include approximately 145 apartments and 6,657 sq. ft. of retail. Buildings on the site have already been demolished, and completion of the tower is expected by the end of 2018.
SAFE ELEVATOR USAGE PART OF MUMBAI SAFETY SUMMIT
Awareness about using elevators safely was part of a January 13 rally at various sites in Mumbai, India, directed at villagers and slum dwellers, The Free Press Journal reports. Members of the Association of Elevator Companies of Maharashtra (AECM) were among the approximately 300 participants. The event largely focused on handling power safely, but also covered elevators. An AECM member observed that most elevator accidents occur because of people trying to pry doors open during power outages.
