ELEVATORS ENHANCE ACCESSIBILITY AT MONTREAL METRO STATION
Accessibility proponents in Montreal are applauding Société de Transport de Montréal’s (STM) construction of two elevators at the Du College metro station in St. Laurent, CTV News Montreal reports. Part of an ongoing focus on greater accessibility, the project was accelerated thanks to government subsidies. Twelve of nearly 70 Montreal metro stations are considered fully accessible now, and STM has vowed to make the entire system accessible by 2038. The Du College station elevators are scheduled to be operational by the end of the summer, and STM plans to begin work on five other stations before the end of the year.

SELECTIVE TENDER ISSUED FOR NSW HOSPITAL PROJECT
The government in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, has solicited bids from KONE, Liftronic Pty. Ltd., Otis, thyssenkrupp Elevator Australia, Electra Lift Co. and Schindler for a project to modernize eight elevators at Wollongong Hospital in Wollongong and one at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital in Nowa. Being paid for through the NSW government’s Asset Refurbishment and Replacement Program, the project will entail the lifts being modernized one at a time to minimize disruption to hospital staff, patients and visitors.

CHINESE ELEVATOR SALES PROJECTED TO RISE THIS YEAR
Elevator sales in China are expected to rise 15% in 2018 compared to a year ago, fueled primarily by a domestic real-estate industry that rallied in 2016, SHINE reports. In 2016, the National Bureau of Statistics reported 1.57 m2 of homes in China sold, an annual increase of more than 22%. An industrial analyst observed elevator sales kick in approximately two years after residences are constructed.
