Liberty Elevator Experts has announced a merger with PM Associates. PM is a 58-year-old company that has performed compliance inspections and consulting in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Ohio for decades. PM President/Owner Allan Benincasa said, “I had offers from big national inspection firms, but. . . Liberty’s structure, core values, and. . . marketing plan were like nothing I had seen before. President Chris Dodds’ vision for the future of Liberty is remarkable; I cannot wait to see what the future holds.” Liberty is a privately owned elevator inspection, engineering and consulting firm based in Newark, Delaware.
Elevator escalator company Tech Engineering Group (TEG) plans to open its first showroom in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, which will provide better service to the architects and builders with which it works, The Financial reports. In speaking with TEG, the source discovered that, since being established in 2007, TEG has claimed many achievements: becoming the exclusive distributor for Otis and KLEEMANN, obtaining International Organization for Standardization certification and playing a role in many major projects — notably, creation of a tourist zone in Georgia at the Engurl River dam, where a panoramic elevator with 280˚ views is being designed. TEG also noted it developed several vocational programs for those who work on elevators and escalators.
A pedestrian bridge at mile marker 87 over U.S. Highway 1 in Islamorada in the Florida Keys will be outfitted with a pair of elevators, The Key West Citizen reports. The US$2.5-million project is expected to start in November 2019 and be complete in one year. The aerial walkway will allow visitors to easily reach Founder’s Park, host to various festivals and events throughout the year, without law enforcement officers having to stop traffic and create gridlock for motorists headed south. The Florida Department of Transportation plans to host a public session on the plan on July 30 at the Founder’s Park community center.
The European Lift Association (ELA) has set its General Assembly and Annual Conference for London on May 13-14, 2019. The event, which attracts more than 100 senior industry representatives, is a forum for the European industry to discuss common challenges and celebrate achievements. It will be co-organized and hosted by the Lift and Escalator Industry Association (LEIA) of the U.K. and precede LEIA’s triennial trade show, LIFTEX, being held on May 15-16, 2019. LEIA and the ELA said they both “firmly believe that no matter what post-Brexit uncertainties there may be, the lifts sector in both the U.K. and Europe as a whole will remain committed to preserving safety for installers and users under the application of common standards.” This will be the first time ELA’s assembly and conference is held in the U.K.
The Amberly, a 33-story mixed-use tower at 120 Nassau Street in downtown Brooklyn, New York City (NYC), has topped out at 425 ft. and is expected to open by the end of this year, New York YIMBY reports. Developed by AMTrust Realty Corp. and designed by Woods Bagot, The Amberly will have 270 residential rental units along with office and community space. Amenities include a wraparound sundeck on the ninth floor, a landscaped terrace, outdoor cooking/dining areas and a 33rd-story sky lounge providing views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. A 10,000-sq.ft. public plaza designed by NYC’s SCAPE is also being constructed.
