MATOT ACQUIRES KELAIR
Matot Inc. has acquired Kelair Products Inc., an industrial damper company that has specialized in the custom design and fabrication of dampers for more than 30 years. Both Matot and Kelair offer "single source" capability in an effort to avoid problems often associated with outsourcing or dealing with multiple divisions of large corporations. The firms share manufacturing processes, including sheet-metal fabrication and electrical/mechanical assembly. Manufacturing will continue at the current Kelair location in Richmond, Illinois, until at least 2018 before being transferred to Matot, Inc., the premises of which are 57 mi. away in Bellwood, Illinois.
1 UNDERSHAFT GETS THE GREEN LIGHT
Plans for 1 Undershaft, set to become London's tallest skyscraper, were formally approved on November 28 by the city’s Planning and Transport Committee, according to sites including CNN. Retaining its 73 stories and 309.6 m, it has been dubbed "The Trellis" and would be among the tallest buildings in Europe with the U.K.’s tallest public viewing gallery at its peak. The design is still subject to a satisfactory Section 106 (an agreement between developers and the local council on the building's wider impact on the area). It is anticipated to open in the next decade.
GREEN, NATURE-INSPIRED TAIPEI TOWER
arch daily has published photos of Vincent Callebaut Architectures' under-construction Tao Zhu Yin Yuan sustainable tower. Rising in the Xinjin District of Taipei, the 20-story tower features a rotating form that draws inspiration from the double-helix structure of deoxyribonucleic acid and, the source stated, "is to be covered in 23,000 trees in its aim to become a pioneering sustainable residential eco-construction that finds the right symbiosis between the human being and the Nature.” It is set to be completed in September 2017.
WEST PALM BEACH STATION ESCALATORS ON THE WAY
The escalators in All Aboard Florida’s Brightline train station in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida, are being installed. PalmBeachPost has reported the escalators will carry passengers from the station’s lobby to waiting areas above the train tracks. They will also be used to move passengers from the upper-level concourse to the rail platform. Brightline's trains are expected to start shuttling passengers between West Palm Beach and Miami by the second half of next year.
