ROSEMOR ADDS DISTRIBUTORS
Rosemor International Ltd., a U.K.-based escalator cleaning-machine supplier, announced in August that it gained new dealers in the U.S., Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Belgium and China. It has also set up an arrangement with a local U.S. nationwide service and maintenance provider for aftersales support. In the U.S. and Canada, USA-CLEAN, Inc. is the exclusive distributor for Rosemor's machines. Established in 1986, Decatur, Illinois-based USA-CLEAN has grown into one of the largest independent providers of repair service and parts for floor-cleaning equipment in North America. It reported it will also be rolling out a new dealer program for direct sales throughout both countries, adding it "has had breakthrough selling to new markets, such as Iran, Hong Kong, India, China and Romania."
FIRST GREENPOINT LANDING BUILDING OPENS IN BROOKLYN
The 30-story One Blue Slip at 37 Blue Slip overlooking Midtown and Lower Manhattan in Brooklyn, New York, is now leasing its 359 units, and developers are confident about the future of the four-tower Handel Architects-designed Greenpoint Landing, New York YIMBY reports. A joint venture of Brookfield Properties and master planner Park Tower Group is behind the development, which will eventually have 5,500 apartments (including 1,400 that are "affordable"), an elementary school and a 1.5-acre waterfront park on 22 acres. One Blue Slip's amenities include indoor and outdoor lounges, a fitness center, a bar with an outdoor terrace, a children's playroom and co-working space. The 39-story, 421-unit Two Blue Slip is under construction and slated for completion in 2019.
ELEVATOR SHAFT FALL FATAL FOR SECURITY GUARD IN BUSAN
A 29-year-old apartment-building security guard fell down an elevator shaft to his death in Busan, South Korea, on August 18, The Korea Times reports. The incident happened in the building in which he was working in the Haeundae Beach area, and is believed to be the result of a technical glitch causing the elevator doors to open before the car arrived. Authorities are investigating.
NEXT CEA MEETING, OTHER EVENTS ANNOUNCED
The Chicago Elevator Association (CEA) has scheduled its next meeting for September 6 at The Clubhouse at 298 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, Illinois, with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. Joe Donnelly will be the guest speaker, providing a Chicago code update. IN MEMORIAM: RODNEY L. “ROD” JAMES
Rodney L. "Rod" James, a 35-year Otis employee who served his last 16 years in vice-president roles, passed away on August 2 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at age 92. A native of Detroit, James was a U.S. military veteran whose career included being awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for service in Korea. With a degree from Yale University Sheffield School of Engineering, James joined Otis, retiring as senior vice president of U.S. Field Operations. When he and his late wife of 65 years, Ruth, retired to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, he acted as the Otis salesman of residential elevators there. Survivors include daughter, Karen; grandson, Dixon; and brother, Bob. A private memorial is planned at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to University Presbyterian Church, 209 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27514; UNC Hospice; and The Cedars of Chapel Hill, 100 Cedar Club Circle, Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27517.
